Netscape Browser Review programme

AOL/TW eventually killed Netscape by releasing the Browser too early (full of bugs) and then by letting go a great bunch of it's knowligable developers [1] putting the Mozilla Foundation in a critical position. Then the same company (AOL/TW) anounces it's commitment to Internet Explorer [2].

The mozilla foundation [3], however, managed to survive and even improved it's products and finally released Firefox 1.0 [4] which started a quiet a hipe. All this was done by volunteers.

So much for the facts. Now my personal optinion on the next browser of Netscape (or let's call them AOL, shall we?). AOL is now hoping to build on the fame of an Open Source product they have given up quiet some time ago. By helping AOL improving and deploying this browser, AOL would gain some control over the browser market again. But for what reason should they ?

So, why should i start installing netscape again? They tend to release their version of mozilla later than the mozilla foundation, release fewer patches/updates. bundle a lot of software i never wanted in the first place, etc.

Please help me. i don't see the point in downloading a netscape branded browser anymore.

hmmm mozilla raises $250,000 for Firefox, Firefox mostly developed by volunteers, how many people get the money? The volunteers get the work, the small Mozilla crowd gets the money.

Come on Bill, we all know you have no love for the free software community. From the infamous Halloween Documents, to the ridiculous patents, to the attempts to dictate every possible aspect of the PC's hardware to accommodate only Microsoft Windows, there is little Microsoft hasn’t done to fight it. And let’s not forget that it was Netscape that pursued the 2000 antitrust lawsuit against Microsoft for illegally forcing computer companies to push Internet Explorer on their customers. Of course there’s also a lot to be wary of with AOL, slash Netscape, slash Time Warner, slash Time Magazine/Life Magazine/Time-Life Books/CNN/ICQ/Compuserve/People Magazine/Sports Illustrated/Sunset/Entertainment Weekly/Money/Fortune/DC Comics/Mad Magazine/HBO/TBS/WB Network. They charge 2-4 times as much as the majority of other smaller companies (they are easy to find with any search engine) and offer poorer customer service than most of them. I personally use Firefox and would gladly volunteer my time for such projects because of how great it is to know you’ve made something useful to millions of people that can help them begin to break away from the iron grip of software giants like AOL and Microsoft.

Its not the real Bill Gates is it,, can you lend me 20 bucks.. go on you make 20 bucks every nanosecond.. seriously though..its all AOL/timewarner/hbo/etc/etc that are at fault for killing off Netscape, but I feel people are moaning about nothing more that power n money, theres nothing wrong with internet explorer so just use it, who cares if bill is making 1000000$ per minute and other companies are struggling and blame Microsoft for having a virtual monopoly, ..would you do it if it was your company.. thats the point of business to dominate..so next time you buy a microsoft product instead of a smaller companies one then just be happy that instead of bill gates looking at his bank account that day and it reads $5647356742657 that because of you it will read $5647356742678
