SillyDog701 received message from Netscape/AOL. Netscape is currently looking for testers for testing and providing information for new browsers. The new Netscape browser will be based on Mozilla Firefox.

Yes, that's right, the new Netscape will be based on Mozilla Firefox.

Netscape is looking for some testers for a prototype of our new browser. Based on Firefox, the new browser incorporates several new features, enhanced UI, etc. If you or someone you know would like to test the software, please go to http://community.netscape.com/nscpbrowser and enter the registration code: prototype1104 to pre-register. The browser prototype will be available for download on November 30th.

Tester slots are limited, so get there soon.

You would be able to manage different settings of security for different sites. And you can customise your browser toolbar with live weather, news headlines etc.

AOL could not yet comment on what to expect in the prototype, the revamped browser will likely extend Firefox's feature set with Netscape-specific extensions and retain Netscape's traditional green user interface.

AOL announced the upcoming prototype in a message to Netscape users, even taking a swipe at Internet Explorer for its recent security woes.
