Mozilla releases Firefox 3.0, Firefox Download Day

After months of testing, Mozilla today has released Firefox 3.0 for Mac OS X, Linux and Windows. Mozilla Firefox 3.0 is the second major release of Mozilla Firefox and there are more than 15,000 improvements.
Among the browser's improvements are a new full-page zoom function that displays a portion of a Web page up close in seconds, and a smart location bar that learns as people use it, adapting to user preferences and offering better fitting matches over time.
Firefox Download Day starts today, and Mozilla aim to achieve the Guinness World Record for the most software downloads in 24 hours

Firefox also add new malware and phishing protection tools that protect users from viruses, worms, trojans and spyware. Similar to Netscape 8's Site Controls, Instant Web Site ID allows users to verify that a web property is what it claims to be, rather than a rogue website aimed at copping their personal information.
Mozilla also claims that Firefox 3.0 is at least two or three times faster than previous versions on Mac OS X.

Firefox 3.0 is based on Gecko 1.9. On Mac OS X, Gecko 1.9 is based on Cocoa instead of Carbon.
On 9th November 2004, Mozilla Foundation released Firefox 1.0; a year later, Firefox 1.5 was released (29th November 2005). Then in October 2006, Firefox 2.0 was released (24th October 2006).
Mozilla Firefox 3 can be downloaded from Mozilla download page, and the Release Notes is also available.
